Mowing Like Dad

A Dream of Mowing like Dad:

Today, June 14, 2019 was a very special day for 4Rivers Equipment. We finally had the chance to meet Bauner Borgman.

Bauner Borgman isn’t your average 21 year-old; not because of the fact that he has had to struggle with Cerebral Palsy his entire life, but the fact that his biggest dream and wish in life was to be able to mow the grass like his father.

For his entire life, Bauner has had to cope with not being able to participate in mobile activities like all of his friends and other kids his age. Whether it be going to an amusement park to ride a roller coaster, playing on a youth sports team, or even tossing around a baseball with his dad in the backyard; Bauner hasn’t been able to experience many things kids normally do as they’re growing up.

However, once High School came around for Bauner, he was introduced to the Future Farmers of America (FFA) at his local high school he attended. Bauner excelled in his FFA class. He was a major part of the Pine Bluffs FFA chapter and won many leadership awards and even a state degree from FFA. After graduating from Pine Bluffs high school in Wyoming, “he said he really wanted to be a tractor salesman at John Deere and hopes someday to buy a John Deere zero-turn lawnmower so he can help his dad mow the lawn at home.” (Galloway K., Wyoming Tribune Eagle, 2019. https://bit.ly/31A5uq4)

When local Wyoming news shared his story, John Deere heard about Bauner and how his one wish was to be able to mow the grass like his father. But with certain restrictions from normal mowers, it’s always been too dangerous for Bauner to use his family’s normal walk-behind mower.

Deere was touched by Bauner’s struggles and wanted to help in any way they could. John Deere decided that one of their new Zero-Turn-Mowers might be exactly what Bauner needs to be able to cut his family’s grass by himself. With the Zero-Turn-Mowers from John Deere, there is less need for physical movement of the arms and body in order to maneuver the mower around. All it takes is moving the arms forward and/or backwards; no need for turning a steering wheel around and pressing the gas or brakes.

John Deere then reached out to us here at 4Rivers Equipment to tell us about Bauner’s story. And just like Deere; we were truly touched by his and his family’s story. We wanted to help make Bauner’s wish come true by not only letting him test drive one of the new Zero-Turn-Mowers, but giving him his very own.

So we invited him and his family up to our Cheyenne, Wyoming location for a visit. We brought Bauner outside and pretended that he was just going to test drive the new Z-Turn Mower. Little did he and his parents know that we were actually giving him the mower to keep. Once he found out, joy overcame Bauner and he couldn’t control his excitement. The look on his face tells it all.

We added a custom “step-up” to the mower to help Bauner get in and out of his wheelchair when needed and a custom seatbelt kit was also added to ensure increased safety. We also offered Bauner a job since he just recently graduated from high school.

Just the look of joy on Bauner and his parent’s faces was worth far more than the mower itself.
